Featured Friday #69 ***Mighty Monkz***

Born in Brooklyn NY 1977 ,MONKZ was thrown into a military life and pretty much moved multiple times before settling in San Antonio with his parents and sisters. One of the places that had a major role in making MONKZ who he is today is PANAMA in the early 90s. Getting a up close and personal experience with Reggae , Dancehall , Plena ( witch is now known as REGGAETON) by going to major clubs around the city at a young age of 16. It was one spot named DREAMS that he would really experience the DJ side of the Club scene In Panama. Enticed by the power a DJ has in a club to move a crowd , MONKZ knew then that eventually this would be his calling.

Fast forward to 1997 when MONKZ moved back to SATX , A friend named Patrick Pena took him to his first record store and directed MONKZ to the DNB/JUNGLE section .. it was history after that. So coming from a reggae back ground He gravitated towards most RAGGA tunes and reggae influences on records . He knew this was his calling back in 1997. And so a JUNGLISTS WAS BORN !

MONKZ was also part of the 1st 100% DNB CREW called RUFNEKQLIK and he went by DA MONKEE back in 1999 -2004 playing several underground raves in San Antonio and a few other cities through out Texas , and get the opportunity to MC over the likes of AK1200 , DARA , DANNY THE WILDCHILD and tons of local legends as well as DJ tons of sets for countless shows in SA ,
before taking a little hiatus from music to concentrate on personal development ..

When MONKZ made his return in 2008 He was very enticed by the way DUBSTEP sounded and felt out the speakers .. So he began experimenting with Dubstep but and other 70bpm genres he could incorporate in this new style that was very different and more complex just like DRUM N BASS ..

In 2011 MONKZ decided since no one was booking him , that the best thing to do was to throw a DNB show so he could play and show his skills to the masses . So he teamed up with a big agency and brought down Diesel Boy to play for a crowd of 350 RAVERS that MONKZ promoted for several months .

2012 MONKZ started a night called DNB HEROZ so he could showcase his friends he had made through out the years and so he could drop his exclusive dancehall DNB sets that he was working on very hard .

Around the same time MIGHTY MONKZ joined forces TWO TONE DNB & MIA DRUM N BASS .. and began wearing the badges proudly .. Two Tone Gave MONKZ the opportunity to MC & DJ alongside the likes of DOM & ROLAND , DARA , AK1200,TATRUM DESIER, BASSLINE SMITH , DJ SS , DANNY THE WILD CHILD , LOXY, GRIDLOCK, SUB ZERO , SPIKEY TEE just to name a few and many local legends as well !!!
In 2013 MIGHTY MONKZ started a small crew called 2TEN PLATOON that became the forefront of DRUM N BASS for SAN ANTONIO for the next 8 years .
Now back in full FORCE , MIGHTY MONKZ & THE 2TEN PLATOON are throwing shows again and bringing back the TANK TO TOWN !!!
